The Truth About Sugar

The American population is over two-thirds overweight or obese. The average American eats 57 POUNDS OF ADDED SUGAR A YEAR!! Yet, we wonder why we are struggling to lose weight and why our country is considered to be two-thirds overweight or obese. The blame is not all on the people. The food industry loves to hide sugar on the ingredients list of your foods. There are over 60 different terms used for sugar on food labels. Some of those are the regular white sugar you know about and others are chemical compounds that have almost double the glycemic impact on your blood sugar. If your food or drink is sweet but has “zero sugar”, I can almost guarantee that it has some kind of chemical compound in it to make it sweet. I remember when I played with the Giants, we were allowed to drink Red Bull. Our health team told us they would rather us drink the regular version instead of the “sugar-free” version. We have to educate ourselves and know for ourselves what is good for our health. Majority of added sugar contains high fructose corn syrup or processed fructose in it. This excess fructose is broken down by the liver and turned into fat. Pay attention to your added sugar intake and watch your weight drop and health improve!
